Maintenance of Lab Water Chiller and Baths
Water baths and chiller plays a very important role
in the laboratory of pharmaceutical companies, biotech companies, research
institutes etc. But most often it is placed at one corner of the lab and is not
taken care of. Since lab water chiller
and bath plays an important role in various laboratory tasks therefore it is
essential to maintain its proper functioning.
Whenever a task involving heating and cooling of
chemicals is to be done in the lab, the role of water bath and chiller comes
into play. A proper maintenance of water bath and chiller is very important as
a small error in the unit can result in loss of thousands of dollars.
How
often should you check the functioning of the equipment?
A cleaning and maintaining of water chiller and
bath employs little efforts and energy. Cleaning of air, fluid or condenser of
the water bath is found to be enough to maintain its proper functioning.
• Fitters and water level must be
inspected weekly. During the harsh environmental condition, it should be
checked more frequently.
• The condenser should be vacuumed at
least once in a week in a manufacturing setting while in a cleaner lab setting
it should be clean twice or thrice in a year.
• Along with the cleaning of air filters
and condenser, it is also important to clean fluid of lab water chiller or bath to avoid algal growth. Regularly check
for the color, turbidity and any other changes in the fluid and change it
immediately if any of the factors is not find to be suitable.
Other
Factors to be Considered for Proper Working of Lab Water Chiller and Baths
• Give proper spacing to the water
chiller as it sucks in air from the front and pumps it out the back. So while
placing the equipment provides enough space at the back to provide proper
ventilation. This allows the hot air to escape and prevent it from
re-circulating into the unit.
• Ambient temperature also plays a
crucial role. To maintain the proper functioning of bath or chiller the ambient
temperature should not exceeds manufacturer recommendation.
• To maintain its proper working it is
important to get its service annually.
To avoid any major loss it is better to employ
little efforts and energy in the maintenance and cleaning of your lab water chiller or bath regularly.
